Day 27, Tuesday, September 27, Goat Creek camp to Comox, Vancouver Island, 4614 miles

Rain fell all night, making an already perfect setting mire perfect.  What's the word for that, pluperfect?  Nothing beats the sound of a bubbling creek or the sound of rain on the tent or the sound of morning birds calling on the dawn, but to get all three, that's unbeatable.

Long winding, hilly drive Pemberton through spectacular, breathtaking scenery.  Thank goodness i bivouaced where i did because i would not have made Permberton in time and Goat Creek was really the penultimate great bivouac site on the road.   Moreover, i could not find the Provincial Park i intended to stay in. Good planning, again.  Of course, since that added a few more hours to my trip today, would i make the 12:50 ferry?

As good luck and great timing would have it, even with a couple of breaks along the way, we pulled into the ferry toll booth at Horseshoe Bat to Nanaimo at 12:26, and right after i paid my toll, emptied my spare gas can into my tank, drove on the ferry, gave Erde water, collected my things for the 90 minute voyage, the ferry took off.  No time to spare.  Again, great luck or good timing.

The plan for the night was to head north on VI to Comox to spend the night with Nicholas, whom i met last year on VI with his girlfriend Michelle, wheel-chair bound German Shepherd Kyra, and uber-docile beagle Rudy.  On the way, i stopped off at Rathtrevor Provincial Park to sit for a while in site 74 where last year we all met up for the last time.  What wonderful memories that ignited, memories from exactly one year ago tomorrow.

After 30 minutes at Rathtrevor, we got on our way and arrived at Comox ar 5:30, again, right on scedule.  Try keeping schedules like i am on this trip at home and you'll find it cannot be done.

Tomorrow, we will stay put here with the warm hospitality of our hosts, and then move on north to Port Hardy .

PS...i still am behind one or two postings.  I am sending this one from Port Hardy. I should be caught up by tonight.
